Securing your phone

Ten minutes with your phone's settings closes most of the common doors.

  1. Automatic updates are on for the system and for apps.
  2. The screen lock uses a PIN or passphrase of six or more characters, not a simple pattern.
  3. The phone's built-in security protection is switched on.
  4. Apps come only from the official store, via links from the provider's own website.
  5. I have removed apps I no longer use or do not recognise.
  6. No app I do not fully trust has accessibility rights or permission to draw over other apps.
  7. There is no remote-access or screen-sharing app installed that I did not set up myself.
  8. My mobile account has a PIN or password for SIM changes and number transfers.
  9. Find-my-device and remote wipe are switched on.
  10. No recovery phrase is stored on the phone in photos, notes or files.

If the phone suddenly loses mobile service without explanation, call your mobile provider from another phone.
